Appearance

Cerunnos is a gigantic, imposing Archfey whose presence reflects his immense supernatural authority. In his true form, he wears a torc around his neck, carries a hunting spear in his hand, and traditionally keeps his legendary hunting horn at his belt. His personal heraldry and magical brands feature antlers, a skull, and a crescent moon. The crescent moon represents his devotion to the Maiden of the Moon, a figure associated with his lore and personal life.

Life Details

As the Hunt Master of the Wild Hunt, Cerunnos commands the monstrous hounds and supernatural hunters of the Feywild. Those unfortunate enough to become caught in the Feywild may be marked, branded, or forced to join his great hunt.

Recently, an unknown entity stole Cerunnos’s legendary hunting horn, the artifact used to command the Wild Hunt. With the horn in the thief’s possession, Cerunnos was stripped of his autonomy and forced to follow the entity’s commands.

When Myravyn was brought before him, Cerunnos was ordered to cast her out of the Feywild. Although compelled to obey, he subtly altered the arcane brand placed upon her left arm, incorporating the image of his missing hunting horn into his skull emblem. This modification was intended as a clue, giving Myravyn a chance to recognize his plight and eventually return to free him.

Unable to act openly against his captor, Cerunnos has resorted to communicating through cryptic magical cries and messages across planar boundaries. Through these messages, he hopes to guide those capable of discovering the truth behind his imprisonment.

Interactions with the Party

  • Exile of Myravyn: Before the party began adventuring in Cormyr, Cerunnos physically grabbed Myravyn by the arm and threw her through a rift into the Material Plane. During the encounter, he left an arcane cold-brand on her left arm, featuring his skull emblem with the missing hunting horn incorporated into its design. This hidden detail served as a clue to his predicament.

  • The Displaced Frost Hound: A wounded Frost Hound belonging to Cerunnos’s Wild Hunt fled into the woods surrounding Waymoot, driving away the local wolf packs. After slaying the creature, the party recovered the Skull of a Hound of the Hunt. Myravyn attuned the skull directly into her shield, transforming it into a magical emblem displaying Cerunnos’s crescent moon mark.

  • Communing Across Planes: At Mother Malkin’s cottage, Mother Malkin used a vial of Myravyn’s blood in a trance ritual to establish a mental link directly to Cerunnos. Through this communion, Cerunnos confirmed that he was being held against his will. He instructed Myravyn to seek out the clues he had left behind in her former Eladrin village in the Feywild, hoping these would help her uncover the means to free him.

  • The Blood Pact: To obtain Cerunnos’s guidance through the ritual, Myravyn entered into a 100-year blood pact with Mother Malkin, swearing to retrieve and deliver a vial of Cerunnos’s blood to the hag. This pact binds Myravyn to a dangerous obligation as she investigates Cerunnos’s imprisonment and searches for a way to reach him.

Powers and Abilities

  • Archfey Magic and Command of the Wild Hunt: Cerunnos possesses immense supernatural magic befitting an Archfey. He exercises supreme magical authority over the Wild Hunt, including its hunters and supernatural Frost Hounds. His legendary hunting horn is central to his command over the Hunt.

  • Planar Banishment and Marking: Cerunnos can physically hurl creatures across planar boundaries, casting them from the Feywild into the Material Plane. He can also leave magical marks upon those he encounters, potentially incorporating symbolic clues into their designs.

  • Arcane Cold-Branding: Cerunnos can burn permanent, freezing magical brands into living flesh. These brands leave a lingering aura of unnatural cold and display distinctive heraldic imagery, including his skull emblem and associated symbols.

  • Interplanar Telepathic Link: Cerunnos can communicate mentally across planar boundaries when a suitable magical conduit is established. Blood rituals, such as the one performed by Mother Malkin using Myravyn’s blood, can facilitate this connection, allowing him to convey messages, information, and guidance despite his captivity.
