Landmarks
Cormyr contains numerous settlements, wilderness territories, and places of political or supernatural significance. Its major landmarks include fortified market towns, royal forests, trading ports, and locations connected to the kingdom’s military and political affairs.
Waymoot
A central motte-and-bailey market town situated within the King’s Forest, Waymoot is built around a raised, man-made hill crowned by a central keep. It is surrounded by four major warhorse ranches and serves as one of Cormyr’s primary centres for breeding, training, and distributing warhorses to the Purple Dragon Knights.
The town also houses an Adventurers Guild branch, various commercial establishments, and several inns, making it an important hub for travellers and adventurers.
Espar
A quiet, stone-built village of approximately 100 buildings and 500 residents, situated along the Ranger’s Way. Espar is home to Quiral’s Forge, the Watchful Eye inn, and a shrine dedicated to Helm. Its relatively modest size and rural character distinguish it from the larger fortified settlements of the kingdom.
King’s Forest
A vast royal woodland patrolled by the Purple Dragon Knights. The forest is subject to strict conservation laws, prohibiting unauthorised logging and hunting without official licences.
It contains numerous settlements, wilderness locations, and hidden threats, including goblin territories.
Mother Malkin’s Homestead
A magically concealed forest cottage located near Espar, protected by an enormous perception illusion that obscures its existence from ordinary visitors. The homestead exists outside the celestial weave of fate and serves as the residence of Mother Malkin, a powerful potential hag with connections to Cerunnos, the Wild Hunt and much more.
Dhedluck
A large retirement community located east of Espar. Its population consists primarily of retired Purple Dragon Knights, war mages, and brewers. It provides a place for former members of the kingdom’s military and magical institutions to settle into retirement.
Suzail and Marsember
Suzail is Cormyr’s capital city and houses the central Adventurers Guild branch. It serves as an important administrative and political centre for the kingdom.
Marsember is the largest merchant port along the Dragonmere and the third-largest port in Faerûn. Its commercial activities are heavily influenced by the Truesilver family, with the family’s wealth and political influence supported by silver mining operations in the Stormhorns.
Mouth o’ Gargoyles
A settlement within the King’s Forest, nearby a substantial goblin settlement ruled by Olugg, an unusually intelligent troll. Despite the settlement’s goblin population, Olugg maintains relatively peaceful relations with the Purple Dragon Knights, making the location an unusual example of cooperation between the kingdom’s military authorities and a non-human settlement.
Origins
Cormyr’s history is deeply intertwined with draconic lore, elven ancestry, and a longstanding martial tradition. In ancient times, the realm suffered under the rule of a black dragon who served as High Lord Marshall and manipulated the crown. The region also has a history of conflict involving dragons and high elves, with the latter eventually adapting into the wood elves associated with Cormyr.
Over the centuries, Cormyr developed into a human-dominated kingdom distinguished by its royal authority, military institutions, extensive forests, and agricultural and commercial wealth. The Purple Dragon Knights became central to the realm’s protection, while the kingdom established strict legal frameworks governing adventuring, magic, hunting, and the handling of draconic artifacts.
More recently, Cormyr entered a period of political uncertainty following the death of its Queen without a direct heir. Lord High Marshall Niklaus Veidt currently serves as regent, overseeing the kingdom during the uncertain succession. Meanwhile, three rival noble branches of the Silver family the Truesilvers, Huntsilver , and Crownsilvers compete for political dominance and influence over the future of the crown.
The kingdom’s regional Wardens continue to oversee their respective territories, maintaining law and order alongside the Purple Dragon Knights. Among them is Warden Garen Marston, responsible for the Western Realms, who has become an important contact for the adventuring companions following their registration with the Waymoot Adventurers Guild.
At the current moment, Cormyr remains a prosperous but politically unsettled kingdom, balancing its traditional military authority and legal institutions against competing noble interests, growing supernatural threats, and the uncertain future of its monarchy.
